Lassi, Falooda, or Milkshake? A Guide to South Asian Drinks
These three drink categories get confused with each other constantly, and they're genuinely different things. Here's the actual distinction, and a walk through everything we make in each.
Lassi — India's Oldest Yogurt Drink
Lassi is a blended, frothy yogurt-based drink that's been refreshing people across the Indian subcontinent for thousands of years — it can be sweet, savoury, or flavoured. Ours are made with full-fat yogurt as the base:
- Mango Zing Lassi — real Alphonso mango pulp, full-fat yogurt, vanilla ice cream, and cardamom. The flavour that made lassi famous worldwide.
- Gulkand Lassi — built around gulkand (rose petal jam), floral without being perfumey — one of the most distinctive drinks on the whole menu.
- Paan-licious Lassi — captures the flavour of sweet paan (a classic after-meal betel-leaf preparation with rose, fennel, and gulkand) in drinkable form. Deeply nostalgic if you know paan already; a genuine surprise if you don't.
- Choco-Coconut Lassi — a playful fusion of chocolate and coconut, tanginess and richness at once.
- Anti-Hangover Lassi — a savoury, spiced lassi with fresh ginger, mint, cumin, black pepper, and black salt — rooted in the Ayurvedic tradition of using spiced yogurt drinks to settle the stomach.
Falooda — Dessert You Drink With a Spoon
Falooda is a completely different thing from lassi: a layered, chilled dessert drink built with rose syrup, vermicelli noodles, basil seeds, and typically ice cream or kulfi, meant to be eaten slowly with a long spoon as much as sipped through a straw. It's indulgent in a way lassi isn't.
- Royal Rabri Falooda — topped with rabri (sweetened, thickened milk), the richest option.
- Mango Madness Falooda — mango layered into the classic falooda base.
- Gulkand Gilmore Falooda — the same rose-petal-jam flavour as our Gulkand Lassi, in falooda form.
- Pistachio Blend Falooda — nutty and fragrant.
- Chocolate Reprise Falooda — falooda for chocolate lovers.
Milkshakes — Familiar Format, Fusion Flavours
Our milkshakes are the most familiar format of the three for Western palates, built with flavours that lean into the same fusion identity as the rest of the menu.
- Maharaja Mango Milkshake — the mango-lassi flavour profile, milkshake format.
- Paan Pistachio Milkshake — paan flavour again, this time blended into a milkshake.
- Gulab Jamun Milkshake — built around gulab jamun, India's most famous syrup-soaked sweet.
- Oreo Truffle Milkshake and KitKat Milkshake — familiar, crowd-pleasing options for anyone who wants dessert-in-a-cup without the Indian flavour twist.
Not sure where to start? If you want something refreshing, get a lassi. If you want dessert, get a falooda. If you want something in between, get a milkshake. Full menu and prices at our full menu.
